2020 - 2021

Pandemic I is a photography and video-based project reflecting on my personal experience of the Coronavirus pandemic. Created during a period of shielding, the work explores the conflicting emotions of isolation and the tension between feeling trapped and finding moments of calm and stillness.

The project uses objects gathered from within my home, drawing on still life photography to create quiet, constructed scenes. Influenced by the work of Kevin Best and Richard Kuiper, I explored how lighting, composition, and the placement of objects can shift meaning and perspective. The recurring presence of the Joker acts as a symbolic figure, reflecting what I watched, read, and absorbed during this time. Through this character, the work questions the narratives, contradictions, truths, and misinformation surrounding the pandemic, ultimately asking the viewer to consider: was this reality, or did it all begin to feel like a joke?

Title: Changes.

HD Video, Colour, Sound, 1.58 minute video Looped, Flash warning.

The video explores the happiness through nature and the peace I felt during shielding however, it also shows the emotions I felt of being trapped because I was home all the time. It felt like living a different life and everything was changing so fast and every day was different.
